Reading Workshop
Mrs. Huchel's homeroom reading class is co-taught by Mrs. Zindars and Mrs. Pettice. Reading normally begins with a mini lesson, followed by guided reading groups to best meet students individual needs. At the end of class, students are expected to respond to their reading in their Reading Response Notebook. Before leaving, the students will share their thinking and writing!
AR is a small percentage of the students reading grade. They may have time in class to read and take tests, but they are encouraged to work towards their goal at home. Consider AR their reading homework every night! Students have a sticker chart in their homeroom that helps them track their progress. There is also a prize for the first 6 to meet their goal!

5th grade Dead Words Funeral
Language Arts is taught alongside Reading Workshop. "Word Work" and "Smart Centers" are rotations in guided reading groups and is a time that students are independently practicing the language arts skills that they have learned. You will see this as a combined reading grade in the grade book. Students are responsible for completing this work in class and turning it in at the end of the week. If they do not use their time wisely in class, it may come home as homework.
